Survive the wild, prehistoric style! In this workshop you will learn how our ancestors made rope from various materials, the essential art of fire starting and other survival techniques. £15 (includes access to the site). Numbers limited to 6 per session. Ages 7+ (must be accompanied by a paying adult).

Learn the textile techniques of our ancestors to create your own piece of prehistoric textile. During this workshop you will be introduced to the basics of spinning, weaving and dyeing. £25 (includes access to the site and all materials).

Join a local artist for a tranquil creative session, exploring and being inspired by the beautiful woodland and riverside walks at Castell Henllys. With your entry ticket you will have three hours to explore all of the outdoor and indoor areas of Castell Henllys Iron Age Village, including our woodland and Barefoot Trail. In the village itself, friendly members of our tribe will tell you all about life in the Iron Age. You will also have the opportunity to take part in a crafty activity or to watch a demonstration of an ancient craft. If you want even more of an adventure then you can purchase our self-led activity ‘Warrior Quest’ where there are riddles to solve and challenges to complete with a prize for those who succeed! Tickets non-refundable.

*You qualify for a free ticket if you are:

  • a child under 4 years old

Join the Tribe!

Every Tuesday and Thursday during school holidays, 11am-12.30pm and 2pm-3.30pm
Travel back in time with one of our tribe in this exciting and immersive learning experience and learn all about the Iron Age way of life through talks and hands-on activities, such as bread making, warrior training and building.
Children must be supervised at all times by a accompanying adult. Includes normal admission. Numbers limited to 15 children per session. Ages 6-11.

Samhain Celebration

Winter is coming and Samhain is here! Learn how the Iron Age people celebrated this ancient Celtic festival with activities such as woad-painting, the art of fire lighting, making a beeswax candle and listening to tales of the Otherworld and songs of old around the roundhouse fire. As the sun sets prepare to be dazzled by the fire performance of Damazo Inferno before he sets the wicker man alight!

Wild Food and Medicine Walk

Saturday September 17 10.30am-1pm. BOOKING ESSENTIAL
Join professional forager Jade Mellor on a wild food and medicine walk around Castell Henllys. We will take a gentle stroll, identifying and gathering a selection of seasonal leaves, herbs and blossoms. Looking at various uses (culinary and medicinal) and discussing ways of preparing the seasonal bounty. Under the tipi we will go through our plants, have a cup of wild herb tea and make a wild condiment to take home. Suitable for children 12 and over. £25 per person (includes admission to the village).
