Home Education Day - Iron Age

A chance for home schooling families and groups to experience the school’s program at Castell Henllys. Pupils will be taken back in time for a session led by our costumed interpreters. Our school’s program is designed for KS2 and is aimed at children aged 7-11 and older children are welcome to attend with younger siblings.

Ancient Textiles Workshop
Sunday 12 May, Saturday 7 September, and Sunday 13 October

Learn the textile techniques of our ancestors to create your own piece of prehistoric textile. During this workshop you will be introduced to the basics of spinning, weaving and dyeing.

As the harvest begins, we join together to celebrate. There will be live music from Mari Mathias at 7.30pm, before a spectacular fire performance and the ignition of our wicker man. Recommended ages 4+, please bring a rug or chair clothing suitable for an outside performance.

Castell Henllys presents Collective Flight Syrcas performing ‘Swyn’, and Storyteller Tamar Eluned Williams. Swyn is inspired by the Pembrokeshire coastline, Celtic past and lived experiences, recalls tales of the land and the community of women. Award-winning Storyteller Tamar will begin the evening breathing new life into the story of Branwen: daughter of a sea god, princess of the Island of the Mighty, who holds a fragile peace in her hands. Recommended ages 4+, please bring a rug or chair and clothing suitable for an outside performance. Doors open 6pm.

The shortest day is here. Celebrate by trying some festive crafts or listening to stories by the fireside. As the day draws an end, we will light the bonfire (weather permitting) and there will be a chance to meet the Mari Lwyd!
